How to be prepared for flooding

Flooding can occur at any time of year and it’s important to know what to do in the event your home should be affected.

The River Forecast Centre issues alerts on high water events, they include ‘High Streamflow Advisory,’ ‘Flood Watch’ and ‘Flood Warning.’

If possible, remove any potentially hazardous substances such as petroleum products, pesticides, and chemicals from the imminent flood area to prevent pollution.

Ensure that you are registered for the Regional Evacuation Notification System by visiting www.rdek.bc.ca.

If an Evacuation Order is issued, leave the area immediately. Do not attempt to shut off electricity if any water is present.

TO REPORT FLOODING: call 250-489-9677.
