Ideal conditions for road icing: Mainroad

It looks like the latest weather forecast is showing rainfall in most areas of the East Kootenay and it should transition to snow over the weekend. Light accumulations are possible.
Temperatures are still forecasted to drop to well below freezing by next week. This creates the ideal conditions for road icing as wet roads turn cold.
Mainroad crews will be out patrolling and treating the service area as required, extra caution should be exercised as black ice can form in a matter of minutes. Don’t be fooled by today’s warm temperatures, winter driving conditions are right around the corner.

As always, watch for wildlife and highway maintenance equipment on the road. Freezing conditions after a warm, wet spell can also dislodge rocks from hillsides.
