Invasive species control and prevention leaders in 2018

The BC Weed Control Act imposes a duty on all land occupiers to control designated invasive plants on their property.

Invasive plants can have significant impact to environmental, social, and economic values in our region. The purpose of the Act is to protect our natural resources from these negative impacts. A full list of the species listed in the BC Weed Control Act can be found in the Noxious Weeds of BC field guide.

Many people and businesses of the East Kootenay should be proud of the roles they’ve played a role in helping mitigate the impacts of invasive plants in our communities.

The East Kootenay Invasive Species Council would like to acknowledge all East Kootenay landowners who made efforts to control and reduce invasive plants on their property in 2018. We would also like to thank citizens who participated in community weed pulls on public lands throughout the Regional District of East Kootenay.

The following industries, local governments, individuals and organizations have also demonstrated compliance in managing invasive plants on their East Kootenay properties. Thank you for being ambassadors in your industry, and showing that you care for the beautiful region we call home.
