Kootenay East MLA Tom Shypitka addressed the Legislature today to recognize B.C. Mining Day and the importance of the mining sector to the provincial economy.

“More than 30,000 British Columbians are currently employed in the industry and we are seeing a comeback in B.C. with higher commodity prices leading growth,” Shypitka said. “Investor confidence in the mining sector has returned and we are about to see a surge in the industry right here in our province.”

The mining sector is a foundational part of British Columbia’s economy, with a production value of $9 billion per year, the official opposition’s mining critic reminded.
