Local earns top advisor award
Dave McCracken of EKC MoneyWorks (East Kootenay Community Credit Union) and John McPhee of GFCU MoneyWorks (Grand Forks Credit Union) were two of the seven CUSO Wealth Advisor recipients who received the Qtrade Top Advisor Award for the year 2016 from over 600 wealth advisors.

In addition to meeting the qualifying sales threshold for the award, recognized advisors also have to pass a rigorous best practice review – including evidence that they: Employ sound sales processes and business practices for outstanding results; ensure relevant investment/financial planning and advice; consistently deliver a great member experience; are aware of and responsive to regulatory and compliance requirements; and demonstrate leadership and collaboration within their organization.
Jay Corrado, MoneyWorks General Manager and CUSO CEO stated, “It is a great honour to be recognized amongst a group of your peers from all across Canada. We are proud of our advisors and their dedication to their clients. Since the MoneyWorks partnership in 2013, we continue to evolve, finding meaningful ways to support clients from our communities and our credit union partners.”
Both McCracken and McPhee were congratulated for consistently offering advice that is in the best interest of their clients, their mentoring of associate advisors and their dedication to excellence. This is the third consecutive year that both McCracken and McPhee have received this award.
The awards were recognized at the CUSO three-day workshop held this May in Kelowna. It included over 20 advisors who took part in training and an inspiring lineup of speakers including Hugh Culver Beth Hanishewski and Sherri Ostropolski.
Credit unions and their partners have received numerous other awards for the delivery of service, client satisfaction and trusted advice. For the past nine years, credit unions in Canada have been recognized for delivering the ‘Best of Financial Planning and Advice’ by IPSOS National Best of Banking Awards.
Jody Burk, CEO of East Kootenay Community Credit Union (EKC) and Chair of MoneyWorks stated, “At EKC, we work to maintain a loyal and trusted connection with our members, and clients built from a foundation of mutual values and expectations where our clients see the benefits. The MoneyWorks advisors demonstrated these values.”
