Local girls make history at BC Cup

Fourteen girls from the East Kootenay made up the Kootenay Zone U15 volleyball team this summer.

They trained for six weeks through the Team BC program, then competed at the BC Cup provincial tournament in Kamloops on the July 20-23 weekend.

The girls were ranked first after two days of pool play and then made history by finishing fourth overall.

We were told this is the best a Kootenay team has ever done on record, to date.

The team was made up of two athletes from Cranbrook, eight from Fernie, one from Elkford, two Sparwood, and one from Kimberely.

Andrea Reed from Fernie was the head coach.

Cranbrook’s, Mia Molnar, who was captain of the team this year, was named one of the top-seven tournament All-Star players from the action-packed weekend.

Great job girls, way to represent the Kootenays!
