M2BL launching membership drive
As Meant 2B Loved Pet Rescue Society (M2BL) marks five years of lifesaving work, the organization is inviting animal lovers to play a bigger role in its future through a new membership initiative. To continue rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming animals in need, the rescue is calling on the Cranbrook and Kimberley communities to get involved.
Starting March 1, approved applicants can become voting members of Meant 2B Loved, giving them a voice in shaping the rescueâs future.
âMeant 2B Loved was founded to serve both the animals and people in our region, so it makes sense to provide community members with a say in how we operate,â said M2BL director Darryl Dux.
âSince incorporating in 2020, weâve grown stronger every year, but to reach the ambitious goals we have for the next five years, we need more hands on deck. We hope this membership opportunity encourages more people to get involved.â
To be eligible as a voting member, individuals must:
- Be at least 19 years old and a resident of B.C.
- Agree to abide by M2BLâs Constitution, Bylaws, and Code of Conduct.
- Have volunteered for at least 10 hours per month for three consecutive months within the previous six months or have fostered at least one animal for the rescue in the last six months.
The annual membership fee is $20, with a lifetime membership available for $250. Non-voting memberships are also available for those who want to support the organization in other ways.
M2BL is experiencing a critical shortage of volunteers, affecting its ability to take in animals, fundraise, and prevent burnout among board members and existing volunteers.
âTo have a vote in our future, we believe members should have a demonstrated commitment to the rescue,â said Dux. âUnfortunately, finding volunteers has been one of our biggest challenges, and without more help, we risk cutting back on vital programs that save lives.â
The rescue urgently needs volunteers to fill leadership roles, including a volunteer coordinator, a dog team lead, and bottle team members. Event organizers and fundraising volunteers are also in high demand.
âWhether you can oversee an event or just help out for a few hours, every bit counts,â Dux added. âWe are facing tough decisions, including the potential cancellation of key fundraising eventsâespecially if we canât recruit more bottle team members.â
Despite these challenges, M2BLâs Board of Directors remains dedicated to its mission of helping local animals in need. With greater community involvement, the rescue hopes to continue making a difference for years to come.
