Mainroad continues battle with winter conditions

Cold temperatures with occasional light flurries remain in the forecast for the East Kootenay this weekend, Mainroad East Kootenay Contracting reported this morning (Dec. 16).

The forecast shows cold temperatures Friday and Saturday, particularly at night, followed by gradually warming temperatures from late Sunday with possible snowfall. A significant accumulations is possible early into next week.

Mainroad urges motorists to keep an eye out for graders ice blading on Highway 3.

The main highways in the East Kootenay have winter driving conditions throughout.  Also, watch for compact and slippery sections.

Mainroad patrols will be sanding, conducting side-road cleanup and shoulder plowing, so please watch for slow moving equipment throughout service area and keep a safe distance.

“As always, Mainroad’s priority will be focused on main highways followed by side roads once main highways are serviced. 
Holiday travelers are advised to expect winter driving conditions throughout the week and allow extra time to reach their destination,” Mainroad advised.

“Conditions and visibility can change rapidly so make sure you and your vehicle are ready.  Mainroad highway maintenance equipment will be out in force so watch for maintenance crews and equipment throughout. 
We’ll issue another update Monday mid-day as the weather situation develops. Please DRIVE SAFELY.”
