Mainroad gives incoming snowfall heads-up for region

Mainroad East Kootenay Contracting this afternoon issued a weather advisory for incoming snowfall throughout the region.

Snowfall is forecasted to begin throughout the service area beginning tonight and continue all day into Friday.

In Cranbrook and Kimberley, snowfall is forecasted to begin early Friday morning, beginning with light snowfall, and turning into heavier snowfall amounts in the afternoon. Accumulations of up to five centimetres is forecasted, Mainroad said.

Light snowfall is forecasted to begin in the Yahk area on Friday morning and continue throughout the day into Saturday morning, with accumulations of up to five cm forecasted.

In the Elk Valley, snowfall is forecasted to begin early Friday morning and continue throughout the day into the late evening, with snow accumulations of up to 10 cm forecasted.

Light snowfall is forecasted in the Columbia Valley to begin on Friday morning and continue throughout the day into Saturday morning. Accumulations of up to five cm is forecasted.

“Mainroad crews are currently out pre-treating highways with liquid anti – ice material. Please leave a safe following distance to allow our crews to work perform their work in a safe manner,” the regional highways contractor noted.
