Mainroad warns of incoming snow and cold

Mainroad East Kootenay Contracting this afternoon issued an alert about an incoming weather system forecasted to impact the East Kootenay with flurries beginning Sunday morning, with snowfall increasing in intensity from Sunday night into Tuesday.

Cranbrook/Kimberley Area:

Light snow will begin Sunday for the Cranbrook/Kimberley area, continuing into Tuesday with forecasted accumulations of  five to 10 cm. Yahk snowfall is anticipated to begin Sunday night, with snow continuing into Monday with forecasted accumulations of 10 to 15 cm. The weather system is expected to taper off Tuesday, January 4.

Elk Valley:

Light flurries are expected to begin throughout the Elk Valley region Sunday, then turning to heavier snowfall on Sunday night into Monday with accumulations of five to 10 cm expected. The weather system is expected to taper off on Tuesday, January 4.

Columbia Valley:

Light flurries are forecast throughout the weekend in Panorama and for the Fairmont area. Heavier snowfall is forecasted for Sunday night and Monday with anticipated accumulations of roughly five to 10cm, tapering off on Tuesday morning.

Temperatures are forecast to dip to -25 C in Panorama and other areas – be sure you are prepared for extreme cold conditions and be aware of forecasted conditions before heading out, Mainroad stated.
