MLA Shypitka calls for elimination of provincial gas tax
Yesterday in the Legislature, Kootenay East MLA Tom Shypitka (BC United), addressed the urgent need to tackle the cost-of-living crisis affecting British Columbians.
He advocated for eliminating the provincial gas tax and removing the carbon tax on home heating — emphasizing how these tax reforms would put money back into people’s pockets..
Shypitka highlighted the potential positive effects on small businesses, as at present, Kootenay residents often cross to Alberta for gas due to a substantial cost difference, impacting the local economy.
Under the NDP, B.C. has the highest gas prices in North America, but BC United remains committed to ending this cost pressure by permanently eliminating the provincial fuel tax, saving drivers up to 15 cents per litre on gasoline and diesel, Shypitka said.
