MLA thanks outgoing Rustad after resignation
John Rustad officially resigned as Leader of the Official Opposition (Conservative Party of BC) on Dec. 4.
Columbia River-Revelstoke MLA Scott McInnis stated soon after that it is business as usual in the riding and wished his best regards to the outgoing party leader.
“I want to express my sincere gratitude to John for his leadership of the Conservative Party of BC. John placed great faith in me, and I will always be thankful to him for bringing me on board as a candidate in September 2024.
“Trevor Halford, MLA for Surrey-White Rock, will serve as Interim Leader while the party organizes an official leadership race. Our caucus stands unified behind Trevor, who brings decades of experience and commands deep respect across our team. Trevor has my full support in this interim role, and I am confident he is the right person to lead us forward,” McInnis stated in a media release.
“The past few days have been challenging as we navigated difficult circumstances that led to this change. That said, our caucus is now fully focused on holding the NDP government to account. This is the mandate British Columbians elected us to fulfill, and we will work collectively to deliver on that responsibility.
“In Columbia River-Revelstoke, I look forward to spending time in the riding before the spring session begins in February. It has been a busy summer and fall that kept me away for extended periods, and I am eager to reconnect with individuals and organizations in the Columbia Valley. Helping constituents with their priorities is the part of my job I value most, and I intend to be present and available in the months ahead,” he said.
“Once again, I want to thank John Rustad for his tireless leadership since the 2024 provincial election. John has worked diligently to provide British Columbians with a strong alternative vision to the NDP.
“I look forward to the journey ahead as MLA for Columbia River-Revelstoke and remain committed to serving my constituents to the very best of my ability,” McInnis concluded.
