Nitros climb in KIJHL Power Rankings
The Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) is pleased to announce its Power Rankings for Week 7.
The Princeton Posse have taken the top spot following a 6-2 win over the Sicamous Eagles. Justice Loewen’s ninth goal of the season won the game for the Posse. Gibson Horne made 27 saves.
The Kimberley Dynamiters climb up to No. 2 after winning both their games starting with a 6-1 win over the Fernie Ghostriders. Aiden MacDonald netted the winner at 13:09 of the first period. Connor Baumbach won his debut in goal after coming over in a trade from the SJHL’s Battlefords Stars. On Saturday they had a 9-0 win over Golden. Brayden Schwartz’s opening goal at 17:30 of the first period was the winner. Adam Kisilevich earned the shutout with a 16-save performance.
The Beaver Valley Nitehawks won their lone game of the week, 7-5 over the Grand Forks Border Bruins. Beaver Valley trailed 5-3 after two periods and completed the comeback with a four-goal third period. Ty Noseworthy completed the hat-trick with the winning goal. After Landan Uzeloc allowed five goals on 26 shots in 40 minutes of action, Preston Shumate earned the win, stopping the eight shots he faced.
The Revelstoke Grizzlies make their first Power Rankings appearance with the help of back-to-back wins against the Chase Heat: 9-1 and 6-1. Jake Neufeld scored the winning goal in the first game. William Stewart wasn’t overly tested in the Grizzlies net, stopping 14 of 15 shots. Daniel Erwin’s first KIJHL goal won the second game and Austin Seibel stopped 18 of 19 shots.
The Kelowna Chiefs dropped to the No. 5 spot. Their lone game of the week was a 7-3 loss to the Merritt Centennials on the road. Owen Miller scored his seventh of the season and added an assist. Michael Makowsky allowed six goals on 29 shots in 45:48 of action.
