Kootenay East MLA Tom Shypitka delivered a speech in the Legislature this morning that addressed the increased challenges that people with disabilities face living in rural settings compared to their urban counterparts.

“Winter, spring, summer or fall, my riding of Kootenay East presents its own set of challenges for those living with disabilities in rural British Columbia,” said Shypitka. “It’s difficult even at the best of times for any pedestrian to navigate rural sidewalks at night without properly-lit crossings — let alone deep snow.”

He added he is calling on all three levels of government to come together and coordinate a strategy.
