Police incident at Wasa ends peacefully

A police incident that began unfolding in Wasa during late evening hours of Tuesday February 4 has ended peacefully, RCMP report.

Shortly after 11:40 p.m. last night, Kimberley RCMP was called to a mobile home park, located in the 6000-block of Highway 93/95 in Wasa for reports of a distraught 45-year-old-man, believed to be armed and alone inside his unit.

Kimberley RCMP frontline officers established an area of containment around the man’s home and called for the support of the Southeast District Emergency Response Team (SED ERT) and Crisis Negotiators. The Southeast District Containment Team was also activated and responded to the scene, where they maintained containment of the home overnight and throughout the day.

At approximately 3:30 p.m. today (Feb. 5), as a result of negotiations the man exited his home and was taken into police custody without incident.

“Kimberley RCMP wish to thank all those who were directly affected by the incident for their patience, understanding and full cooperation,” stated Sgt. Chris Newel, Kimberley RCMP Detachment commander.
