Police warn against travel to Lussier and Ram Creek
For the second time in five days, Kimberley RCMP and Kimberley Search and Rescue (SAR) have responded to overdue travellers heading to the Ram Creek/Lussier Hot Spring areas.
We are strongly encouraging members of the public to not attempt attendance to the hot springs given the current extremely icy road conditions.
In both incidents, Kimberley SAR recovered the travellers as their vehicles slid into the ditch and they were unable to get out. With the area not having cell reception, the stranded parties must stay in their vehicles, which results in concerned family members calling police to report the parties as missing.
These rescues take considerable amounts of resources, including helicopter attendance and multiple SAR teams.
“Kimberley RCMP want to express our appreciation to Kimberley SAR who answer the call to rescue these parties,” said Sgt. D. Biggs, Kimberley RCMP Detachment commander
“Please consider the risks associated with trying to drive to the hot springs, as we once again encourage people to avoid these areas with the icy conditions in the backcountry.”
