Prepare for delays due to snow: Mainroad

Yesterday afternoon into late evening the East Kootenay received more than expected snowfall accumulations and Mainroad East Kootenay Contracting is asking regional drivers to anticipate possible delays.

“The weather forecast was for three to five cm throughout the service areas, but snowfall amounts ranged from three to 10 cm,” Mainroad noted this morning.

“Mainroad crews were out pre-treating the roads with our liquid de-icing chemicals, ahead of yesterday’s snowfall.

“Mainroad crews are out plowing and sanding local highways and bus routes. Just a friendly reminder to move over and slow down when you see a plow truck/sand truck coming towards you. Crews are now in cleanup mode since the snow has stopped.

Motorists should use caution, drive to the conditions, and prepare for delays caused by the weather, Mainroad said in a stakeholder’s notification.

Drivers should check www.drivebc.ca before heading out.

“Our 24-hour communications and dispatch office will pass on all your observations and concerns to our crews when contacted,” Mainroad said.
