Prevailing Winds Quintet visits region

The Naden Band of the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) is comprised of 35 professional full-time musicians whose primary role within the RCN is to support Naval Operations, ceremonial events, and generate public awareness.

The leadership of the RCN is focused on promoting the four Canadian Armed Forces core and military values of Duty, Integrity, Loyalty and Courage. The Naden Band helps to facilitate a greater understanding of the RCN role in protecting Canadian interests at home and abroad.

Over the past 77 years, The Naden Band has established and maintained a reputation of presenting audiences with musical performances of the highest calibre while taking pride in making a difference with in the communities it serves.

During February 20 – 24, The Prevailing Winds Woodwind Quintet, Naden Band toured the East Kootenay, promoting traditional and contemporary literature, primarily of Canadian content. In addition to performing classical concerts for the public, the group is often requested for official government ceremonies, fundraising events and educational programs.

The 2756 Invermere Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corp, 552 Key City (Cranbrook) and 279 Elk Valley (Sparwood/Elkford) Royal Canadian Air Squadrons each hosted the Quintet during their tour.

Cadets were captivated by the Quintets’ performance and enjoyed the opportunity to visit with the band members afterwards. Many of the cadets participate in their school band and had a deeper appreciation for the music. Within the cadets, leaders strive to expand horizons and enhance the core training program. This is the second year that a portion of the Naden Band toured the Kootenays and preformed; we look forward to seeing another group next year.
