RDEK seeking election officials

As it begins to prepare for the 2022 General Local Elections this fall, the Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) is hoping to hear from residents interested in acting as Election Officials.

“We have had a number of our long-time Election Officials retire or move away and, as a result, we are hoping to recruit a number of new Election Officials in advance of the fall election,” explained RDEK Chief Election Officer Tina Hlushak.

Duties include directing voters and providing information on the process, registering new voters and supervising ballot boxes and voting booths.

“While previous election experience is a bonus, it is certainly not required,” added Hlushak. “We provide all the necessary training and are looking for people who have strong communication skills, the ability to work long hours on the voting days and who are interested in being part of the election process.”

Application forms, including a detailed list of qualifications, are available on the RDEK’s elections page at www.rdek.bc.ca/elections. Applications are being accepted now through June 20.

There will be a mandatory training session for Election Officials on October 3 in Cranbrook.

The next General Local Elections will be held on Saturday, October 15. Advance Voting opportunities held on Wednesday, October 5 and Thursday, October 13.

Electors in RDEK Electoral Areas A, B, C, E, F and G will cast ballots for Regional District Electoral Area Directors.
