SCSS celebrates 50th anniversary

Summit Community Services Society (SCSS) has been helping people in Cranbrook, Kimberley, and East Kootenay for the last 50 years.

We began as the Child Care Society of East Kootenay in 1971, and incorporated in 1973. Unfortunately, Summit has been one of Cranbrook’s best–kept secrets. Too few people know about what we do.

We want to change that! We want our neighbours to know about us and the services we offer.

Every year, SCSS helps over 2,000 local residents from infants to seniors.

We provide a large range of social services: counselling for men and women, early childhood development, early years programming, as well as seniors programming. The needs in our region is increasing, and people will be glad to know that help is available.

Our Vision is “Fostering communities where all individuals and families are supported and empowered to live the lives they desire.”

Our Mission reads: “Summit Community Services Society is dedicated to promoting community well-being by providing quality, accessible, client-centred support and intervention services in a respectful manner, childcare services, and support programs for seniors and other populations with under–served needs.”

As you can see, we fill a necessary role in the social fabric of our community. We are committed to serving our neighbours in a professional, compassionate, dependable, and respectful manner, treating all people equally and with the dignity they deserve.

We were delighted to mark our 50th anniversary on May 27 with an Open House and cake cutting. It was one moment as we try to increase our profile and make more people aware of the valuable, necessary, and helpful services we offer.
