SD5 Board Notes
The following is a summary of board motions carried during the November 14 School District No. 5 (SD5) School Board of Trustees’ meeting.
Motions Carried
Advocacy
THAT the Board of Education supports work on building the following motions for the Kootenay Boundary Branch (KBB) motion building session: Gender Based Violence; Anti-Bullying Measures; Neurodiversity; Special Education funding; Aging infrastructure with a focus on air quality.
Student Services
THAT the Board of Education writes a letter to review and discuss underfunding of Special Education in the district. This letter will cite examples as provided in District Principal Verbeurgt’s historical data.
THAT the Board of Education researches the feasibility of creating a GAUGE (or similar) alternate program across the district.
Finance Operations
THAT a working group-of-the-whole be formed to investigate school site acquisition charges.
New Business
THAT the 2022-2023 Statement of Financial Information (SOFI) report be approved and filed as required by Secretary Treasurer Taylor.
