Seven fires still burning in region
BC Wildfire Service July 7 reports four wildfires burning out of control in the East Kootenay and Golden areas.
The wildfire in the Findlay Creek drainage, now called the Granite Creek fire, located on the edge of the eastern edge of the Purcell Wilderness Conservancy, remains out of control.
Believed to be caused by lighting, the fire discovered July 3 is estimated at 40 hectares. It is about 34 km southwest of Canal Flats.
A lightning caused fire east of Fairmont Hot Springs, on the east side of Fairmont Mountain, remains out of control at .02 ha.
The Carrol Creek fire, just west of Kinbasket Lake, remains out of control at 98 ha.
Three other fires are burning in the region but considered being held or under control.
The Moyie River/Lumberton fire, southwest of Cranbrook is now listed as under control at 29 ha.
The Bear Creek fire, on the west side of Kootenay River, west of Windermere, is still being held at 1.5 ha. The lightning caused fire was discovered July 2.
The lightning caused Dry Creek north fire, at five ha, is under control. The fire is located on the east side of the Fairmont Range southeast of Fairmont Hot Springs.
