Environment Canada this morning issued a severe thunderstorm watch for all three of its East Kootenay reporting stations covering the Cranbrook/Kimberley area, Columbia Valley and Elk Valley.

Weather conditions remain mainly cloudy in the region with a few showers with thunderstorms beginning near noon, Environment Canada stated.

As a result of those conditions there is a risk of a severe thunderstorm.

Thunderstorms are expected to subside by midnight.
