Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) staff and a contractor have been on site at the Wasa Transfer Station today (Nov. 14) after a fire in the wood waste pile.

Our contractor and water truck have worked to ensure things are fully wetted down. The smouldering fire is isolated only to the wood waste pile and is not affecting operations of the transfer station, which has remained fully open.

The cause of the fire is not known at this time.
