Snow hitting some areas harder

Flurries forecasted for the East Kootenay have turned into more than that in some areas and snowfall is expected to continue into the evening.

The Cranbrook, Kimberley, Yahk and Jaffray areas are currently experiencing a snowfall greater than forecast, reported Mainroad East Kootenay Contracting this afternoon.

“Mainroad crews are out plowing, sanding and salting, and snowfall is expected to continue for the next six to eight hours before dissipating. With temperatures in the -4C range expect heavy, wet snow and slush formation,” Mainroad stated in a stakeholders’ update.

Winter driving conditions prevail in the impacted areas; please slow down and carry plenty of washer fluid. Salts and chlorides can attract wildlife so exercise caution on all routes.

Check DriveBC for latest updates. Please give highway crews and equipment plenty of room to work.

Mainroad’s 24 hour communications centre will pass on all your observations and concerns to our crews when contacted; call 1-800-665-4929.
