Snowfall returning to the East Kootenay
Mainroad East Kootenay Contracting is alerting stakeholders to expect light snowfall to begin today and continue through to the weekend.
Elk Valley:
Snowfall is forecasted to begin this afternoon and continue to well into the weekend. Friday with accumulation is forecasted with two to four centimetres, increasing in accumulation on Saturday with 10 – 15 cms.
Cranbrook, Yahk and area:
Snowfall will begin in Cranbrook Saturday morning with five to 10 cms of accumulation forecast and continuing into the week.
Snowfall has begun in Yahk area with one cm of snow accumulation forecasted. Snowfall is forecasted to continue Friday through to the weekend with an accumulation of 15 cms, Saturday is expected to have the heaviest snowfall of up to 10 cms predicated.
Columbia Valley:
Milder weather is expected for the Columbia Valley. Friday less than one cm of snowfall is in the forecast, with Saturday expecting one to three cms of snowfall.
Mainroad crews are currently out pre-treating highways with liquid anti – ice material. Please leave a safe following distance to allow our crews to work perform their work in a safe manner.
Motorists should use caution, drive to the conditions, and prepare for delays caused by the weather. Drivers should check www.drivebc.ca before heading out.
