Snowfall to continue through weekend in East Kootenay
Mainroad East Kootenay Contracting is alerting stakeholders and drivers that snowfall is going to continue throughout the weekend in the region.
Light snowfall is forecasted to begin tonight and continue throughout the service area to Sunday.
In the Cranbrook and Kimberley areas light snow is expected to begin later this evening turning to heavier snowfall for Saturday (March 2) with accumulation of up to 10 cm forecasted. Snow will begin to taper off on Sunday with one cm of snow accumulation expected.
In the Elk Valley, light snow is forecast to begin tonight and continue throughout the weekend into Sunday. Snowfall accumulations are expected to be around five cm, Mainroad said.
In the Columbia Valley, light snow will begin on Saturday with accumulations of up to four cm forecasted and will continue to Sunday with accumulations of up to one cm expected.
And in the Yahk area, snow flurries will begin tonight, turning to heavier snowfall Saturday morning. Snowfall accumulations for Saturday are expected to be up to 10 cm before tapering off on Sunday with accumulations of up to three cm forecasted.
Motorists should use caution, drive to the conditions, and prepare for delays caused by the weather. Drivers should check www.drivebc.ca before heading out, Mainroad advises.
