Snowfall warning for Elk Valley

If you wanted a white Christmas in the Elk Valley, you got it.

Environment Canada this morning issued a snowfall warning for the Elk Valley, forecasting about 20 cm is expected, especially in the Fernie area.

“A moist Pacific frontal system is forecast to spread snow to Elk Valley this afternoon. The snow will be heavy at times near Fernie due to a strong southwest flow aloft. The snow will end after midnight tonight as the system moves to the east,” Environment Canada said.

Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.

Take frequent breaks and avoid strain when clearing snow.

While the warning is only for the Elk Valley, the other areas of the East Kootenay will also receive varying volumes of snow over the next 24 plus hours.
