Snowfall warning for Elk Valley and national parks
Environment Canada today (Feb. 16) issued a snowfall warning for the Elk Valley and Kootenay National Park (particularly Highway 93 through Kootenay Park), as well as Yoho National Park.
Ten to 20 cm of snow is expected this afternoon through to Tuesday afternoon (Feb. 17).

Environment Canada has also issued a snowfall warning for Highway 3 – Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass – with total amounts of 15 to 25 cm expected through to Tuesday morning, with the highest volume of snow expected in Kootenay Pass.
An incoming low pressure system will bring snow to all southeastern B.C. beginning this afternoon.
Snowfall will intensify this evening and continue through till Tuesday bringing 10 to 20 cm of snow. Amounts may vary widely over short distances.
The snow will taper Tuesday afternoon as the system moves eastward through the Prairies, Environment Canada forecasted.
Roads and walkways will likely be difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. Visibility will likely be reduced at times. Weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions.
Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. If driving, turn on your lights, slow down and maintain a safe following distance.
The site shiftintowinter.ca reminds drivers to know before you go.
