Snowfall Warning issued for Kootenay Pass

Environment Canada has today (Oct. 25) issued a snowfall warning for Highway 3 – Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass.

Moderate to heavy snow expected from tonight into Sunday morning (Oct. 26) Highway 3 – Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass.

A Pacific low pressure system will move across the southern interior tonight. Light snow from the system will start late this afternoon and will intensify tonight.

The snow is expected to taper off to a few flurries Sunday afternoon as the low moves eastward.

Total snow accumulations of 15 to 20 cm can be expected with higher amounts near Kootenay Pass, Environment Canada said.

Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.

Weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions. Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions.

The site shiftintowinter.ca reminds drivers to know before you go. Adjust to winter driving behaviour and use winter tires and chains. Road conditions are available at drivebc.ca.
