Striking for all Canadians relying upon services
Letter to the Editor
As a proud member of the Water Survey of Canada, I am writing to express my continued support of the Public Alliance of Canada (PSAC) ongoing strike action. These are unprecedented times, and we are striking for the future of all PSAC members, including border services, Parks Canada workers, and other public service employees who have been without a new contract for three years.
As a water survey employee, I am actually aware of the importance of our work, which involves collecting, analyzing and disseminating hydrological data on Canada’s water resources.
However, the current dispute with the government regarding our contract is deeply concerning. We are hoping for a fair wage as we heading into this freshet season and perform high risk work to make sure water data measured during winter runoff is collected accurately and on time.
We are striking not just for ourselves, but for all Canadians who rely upon our services. We hope that by going on strike, we can show the government the value in reaching a fair and reasonable agreement that addresses our concerns about job security, wages and equal pay for work of equal value.
