Summit Seniors Shuttle Service launched

Summit Community Services Society is thrilled to announce the debut of the Summit Seniors Shuttle, a seven-passenger hybrid Chrysler Pacifica.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the contributors who made this initiative possible, including Columbia Basin Trust’s Non-profit SMART Program, which supports projects that enhance energy efficiency and promote climate resilience.

Cranbrook Dodge, committed to giving back and strengthening the community, made a significant contribution toward the vehicle purchase.

The Rick and Marg Jensen Family Foundation, dedicated to aiding individuals and organizations in the region, helped kickstart this project.

Kal Tire, through its Tires for Good program, provided winter tires to ensure safe travel. Generous donations from local citizens helped equip the van with essential gear.

Sidekick created a stunning and eye-catching design for the vehicle wrap.

Plug In BC and BC Hydro assisted with the necessary electrical infrastructure for the project, and Spark Youth Society provided a parking space.

This program is designed to ensure that seniors have reliable, safe, and affordable access to essential services, social activities, and community events. The Summit Seniors Shuttle will connect seniors to both medical and non-medical services in Cranbrook, as well as various social events.

This service is available to seniors in Kimberley, with priority given to those without access to personal transportation.

“Transportation is one of the biggest barriers to staying active and engaged as we age,” said Martina Danzer, Executive Director of Summit Community Services. “The Summit Seniors Shuttle helps bridge that gap, allowing community seniors to maintain their independence and continue participating in the community they cherish.”

Summit Community Services Society encourages community members to help spread the word and connect older adults with this invaluable resource. To keep the program sustainable, suggested donations are $5 for a round trip in Kimberley and $20 for a trip to Cranbrook and back.

Volunteer drivers are essential for the success of this program. If you’d like to be part of this incredible initiative that truly makes a difference, please contact Tamara Duggan, Summit Helping Seniors Volunteer Coordinator, at 250-427-8733.
