I am trying to sort out what appeals to me most about any electoral system and I keep thinking of various surveys and polls that use a representative sample to get an accurate glimpse of the whole.

The concept of representative sample seems to parallel the notion of proportionality. What I’m starting to understand is that proportionality in the Legislature could, in effect, be the representative sample that mirrors the larger population. That appeals to me and is now the biggest issue for me.

The details of achieving a representative sample seem to include several options and that’s okay too.
