More suspected overdose deaths in IH region
The BC Coroners Service this morning confirmed an additional two deaths in the Interior Health (IH) region from suspected drug overdoses.
This increases the total number of suspected drug overdoses to nine over a five-day period (Tuesday, Jan. 23 to Saturday, Jan. 27), with an overdose alert issued on Jan. 26.
IH urges residents “using or considering using drugs to reconsider or take steps to prevent overdose in the wake of a recent increase in suspected drug overdose deaths in the region.”
When asked about specific communities that have experienced suspected overdose deaths, IH replied: “The suspected overdose deaths have occurred in different communities across Interior Health, which is the reason for the alert across our region. This includes larger urban centres (e.g., Kamloops and Kelowna) as well as in smaller rural communities. We do not release the specific communities because, in very small communities, there is the risk of unintentionally identifying individuals.”
