Three Eddie clubs included in first Power Rankings

The Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) is pleased to announce its first Power Rankings for the 2025-26 season and three Eddie Mountain Division teams are in the top five.

The Kelowna Chiefs are off to an excellent start under new head coach-general manager Rylan Ferster. They remain the lone KIJHL team that is undefeated in regulation time. Over the weekend, they swept a three-game road trip that started with a 7-3 win over the Kimberley Dynamiters with Owen Ivanov netting the winner.

Then in Fernie on Oct. 11, Sam Dal Cin delivered the overtime winner in a 3-2 final against the Ghostriders and Christan Stephanson scored the shootout winner against the Creston Valley Thunder Cats in a 2-1 finale. In seven games, the Chiefs now have six wins and one overtime loss and are 4-0 in October.

The Beaver Valley Nitehawks are 4-0 in October. On Oct.11 against the Castlegar Rebels, Ollie Clement scored the winner in a 4-1 final, which helped head coach-general manager Terry Jones reach another milestone in his long, storied KIJHL career. Jones now has 920 career regular season wins, and with his 280 playoff victories, has 1,200 career wins.

The Nitehawks wrapped up their weekend with a 7-2 victory against the Chase Heat with Ollie Clement, once again scoring the winning goal. He recorded a hat-trick and four points. The Nitehawks are 6-2-0 on the season.

The Kimberley Dynamiters are among the top KIJHL teams to start the season. They opened their weekend with a 7-3 loss to the Chiefs, then rebounded to edge the Grand Forks Border Bruins 2-1 on Oct.11 with Nate Murdoch scoring the winner. The Dynamiters are 5-2-0.

The Golden Rockets are an early surprise team. They started the season with a 3-0 September and this past week faced divisional opponent, the Fernie Ghostriders earning a 5-2 win on the road. Justin Mol scored the winner, which had them leading 3-0 after the first period. The Rockets are 5-2-0 to start the season.

Rounding out the top-five is another Eddie Mountain team – the Creston Valley Thunder Cats. On Oct. 10, the Thunder Cats had a 3-1 lead after two periods, and managed to earn a 4-3 victory in Spokane with Liam Munro scoring the winner.

On Oct. 12, hosting the Chiefs, the Thunder Cats lost 2-1 with Liam Munro scoring their lone goal. Munro is the first KIJHL player this season to reach 10 goals.
