Weather advisory issued for East Kootenay

Mainroad East Kootenay Contracting reported it is currently pretreating area highways ahead of the forecasted snowfall that is anticipated for this upcoming weekend.

Elk Valley

Forecasted snowfall is expected to begin late tomorrow (Jan. 30) with up to three cm forecasted. Snowfall increases on Friday with up to 15 cm of snow accumulation anticipated, Snowfall is expected to continue into the weekend with accumulations of up to 10 cm on Saturday and five cm on Sunday. Snowfall is forecasted to taper off on Monday.

Cranbrook and area

Light snowfall is anticipated to begin late Thursday with less than 1cm forecasted. Light snowfall is forecasted for Friday with up to three cm of snowfall and up to three cm of snowfall for Saturday.

Columbia Valley

Snowfall is forecasted to begin on Friday with up to three cm forecasted, snowfall will continue into the weekend with Saturday having up to four cm of snowfall and Sunday having up to five cm.

Yahk and area

Snowfall is anticipated to begin tomorrow with up to three cm, by Friday snowfall accumulation will increase with accumulations of up to 10 cm, with the possibility of rain also forecasted. Saturday has a forecast snowfall amount of up to five cm, which will begin to taper off on Sunday with up to five cm of forecasted.
