What adjustments are you willing to make?

Letter to the Editor

My granddaughter shared a neat idea with me: a magic mirror that shows the future based on our present day actions. If we don’t like what we see, we make adjustments.

Wouldn’t that be handy?

When we gaze lovingly into this mirror, I wonder what we’d see personally. How will we become better people? What adjustments will shape our future in a good way?

What about the groups we’re involved with? Do our collective actions spring from a place of peace, love and respect? Are they based on accurate information? Will they get us to a more caring and inclusive place?

My vision for the future has good food for everyone, clean air and water, and lots of big trees. It’s where we all have comfortable homes, quality medical care and educational facilities, and a robust, green transit system. It’s a place where we have intact ecosystems where all life can flourish.

I envision communities where we trust and support each other, where we have a say in our governance, and where all voices are heard. Where together we can heal and grow, and express ourselves through the mediums that appeal to us.

I see a just peace all over the world.

And I’m happy to make adjustments to help us get there.

What’s your vision when you gaze into that imaginary mirror? What adjustments are you willing to make?

And what adjustments do we need to make together as a community and as a society?

Winlaw
