Winter storm warning in effect for Kootenay Pass
What else is new?
Environment Canada has today (Dec. 26) issued its latest winter storm warning for Highway 3 – Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass, with snowfall accumulations near 20 to 30 cm expected from now to this evening.
“A Pacific frontal system is impacting B.C. interior. Snowfall associated with this system will intensify this morning and then taper off this evening as this system departs. Strong gusty winds near 50 km/h could also lead to local blowing snow conditions with reduced visibilities today,” Environment Canada stated.
Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. Weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions.
The site shiftintowinter.ca reminds drivers to know before you go. Adjust to winter driving behaviour and use winter tires and chains.
