Dozer completes machine guard around wildfire perimeter

A piece of heavy equipment has completed a machine guard around the perimeter of a wildfire that broke out yesterday near Kragmont, south of Baynes Lake.

The winds have died down last evening, decreasing some of the fire behaviour; however, the fire continues to generate a significant amount of smoke, which is expected to linger in the area tonight.

An Initial Attack Crew from the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) was on site yesterday and BCWS resources are expected back on site today.

The fire was turned over to the BCWS by the local fire department tonight at approximately 10 p.m. last night.

The fire is located near Fitzpatrick Road and Highway 93 and is estimated to be approximately five hectares in size.

Fifteen firefighters from the Jaffray, Baynes Lake and Elko Fire Departments have been on scene since mid-afternoon when the fire was called in.

The fire is now posted on the BC Wildfire website and is number N10879.

The latest information on the fire will be available through the BC Wildfire Service on www.bcwildfire.ca.
