Be mindful while fuelling up
Elk Valley RCMP would like to remind everyone to be mindful while fuelling up at the gas pumps. Please ensure you do not leave the pump unattended and remember to obtain your gas card once fuelling is completed.
Avoid using open WiFi for banking and other sensitive transactions
Police would like to remind all businesses in the community to avoid using open WiFi for banking and other sensitive transactions. There have been two reported fraudulent e-transfer incidents where the businesses were connected to WiFi and banking information was obtained and used fraudulently. Please remember to shut down all transactions on your computers at the end of the business day.
Logging truck encounters “smoky” tires
A logging truck got into some trouble when a set of dually wheels caught fire and broke free from the trailer near the Hosmer Bridge (pictured above). Fernie and Hosmer Fire Departments attended the scene to douse the blaze. Police and Commercial Vehicle Safety Enforcement caught up with the logging truck moments later in Fernie, resulting with the driver receiving a number of Motor Vehicle Act violation tickets and the logging truck trailer was towed. There were no injuries.
RCMP conducting traffic enforcement
The RCMP will continue to be active conducting traffic enforcement in our communities. Of special note are recent changes to the Criminal Code concerning impaired driving enforcement. Of these changes is the ability for police to conduct mandatory roadside alcohol screening for all persons operating a motor vehicle.
