Elkford Council News
The following is a synopsis of what occurred during the October 11 District of Elkford council meeting.
Inter-Community Business Licence
Elkford, Fernie, and Sparwood are proposing to introduce a new Inter-Community Business Licence (ICBL) for mobile businesses operating in these three communities. Effective January 1, 2017 eligible businesses will be able to purchase an ICBL in addition to the Municipal Business Licence they purchase in their principal community. This initiative will save a business from obtaining a separate business licence from each community in which the business provides services.
The initiative was discussed during the Committee of the Whole meeting. More details will be coming shortly.
Update on Local Health Services
Terri Domin, Health Service Administrator for Interior Health East Kootenay, updated council on the key regional strategies for 2016-2018, health care resources, paramedicine program, services at home, and the Healthy Communities Program. Ms. Domin shared the accomplishments of Interior Health in the East Kootenay, including 1,000 new staff members in the entire Interior Health region. One goal of Interior Health is to keep patients in their community and provide as much health care as possible without having to travel.
