Elkford unleashing snowblower to widen byways

The District of Elkford announced on social media today that it is unleashing its snowblower to help to widen the roadways currently narrowing from all the snow.

“You’ll see the snowblower making its rounds within the next week or so, so please remind your friends and neighbours not to park on the street between the hours of 6 a.m. and 4 p.m.,” the district stated.

Per the District of Elkford Traffic and Streets Amendment Bylaw, parking is prohibited on any roadway, street, highway or lane between the hours of 6 a.m. and 4 p.m. from November 1 to March 31 (inclusive). This bylaw is in place so that Public Works can safely perform efficient and effective snow removal on your street.

“Since our Public Works operators are actively working to cut back snowbanks and snow piles to widen our roadways, we also ask that you please ensure that children do not play in snow berms or on snow piles along roads. Operators can’t see tunnels carved in the snow and cannot always see children who are playing on snowbanks, either,” the district asked.

“Kids (and kids at heart) can always safely play in the snow at the toboggan hill that is piled high beside the district office and running into the soccer field. When darkness falls, the hill is lit up! “The whole family is welcome to come along and enjoy Elkford’s Meeting Place, located between the district office and Community Conference Centre. Bring your own firewood, hot chocolate and some sleds for the toboggan hill to make the most of a winter evening!”
