Construction at the Elko boat access take-out on the Elk River above the dam begins today.

The purpose of the project, in partnership with the Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK), is to improve river safety for locals, visitors, and river outfitters, the user experience, and support access for Canfor and the Elko Fire Department.

Access at this point will be prohibited for the majority of September.

Work on the site includes:

• River access and road improvements.
• Boat ramp installation.
• Signage kiosk and picnic table installation.
• Concrete vault toilet and signage kiosk installation near the upper parking area.
• Improvements to the upper parking area.
