Fernie Legion Poppy Fund supports Elk Valley Hospital

Branch No. 36 Royal Canadian Legion Fernie has donated $10,000 from their Poppy Fund to the Elk Valley Hospital.

Funds for the poppy fund are raised by the annual poppy campaign that is organized and runs in local communities during October and November. Donations are used to support veterans and their families in the community, as well as funding bursaries, medical costs, and various other community causes.

This donation will support the purchase of a new bladder scanner for the Elk Valley Hospital. Bladder scanners are non-invasive diagnostic tools that use ultrasound technology to accurately measure bladder volume. They are instrumental in diagnosing urinary retention, post-operative complications, and other bladder-related issues. Having one at the Elk Valley Hospital will be a great improvement for health care in the valley.

Jennifer Cronin, President of the Fernie Legion said, “we are grateful to the residents of the Elk Valley for their support of the Poppy Campaign. It is through their generous donations that we are able to give back to our community and support the Elk Valley Hospital in the purchase of much needed equipment.”

“We are incredibly grateful to the Fernie Legion for their generous donation from their Poppy Campaign in support of the new bladder scanner for the Elk Valley Hospital. The Legion plays such a vital role in our community—not only in honoring and supporting our veterans year-round, but also in giving back to the health and well-being of all who live here.

“This gift is a true reflection of their compassion and dedication to the Elk Valley, and we are honoured to partner with them,” stated Brenna Hong, Executive Director of the East Kootenay Foundation for Health.
