1902 mine disaster’s 120th anniversary May 22
Join in at the Coal Creek Barn Sunday, May 22 in Fernie to commemorate the 120th anniversary of Canada’s third most fatal mine disaster.
The schedule includes a presentation about the tragic events of May 22, 1902, by mining historian John Kinnear at 1 p.m., with a selection of images of the Coal Creek Mine and community, which thrived into the 1960s.
From 1:30 p.m., enjoy live music from The Audielles and activities for children, with a chance to meet the barn animals hosted by Fernie Therapeutic Horse and Pony Club and Coal Creek Heritage.
Guests are welcome to arrive from noon, and there will be a burger barbecue by donation, hosted by The Fernie Hotel.
Please be prepared for all weather. Limited picnic tables are available, lawn chairs are welcome.
