Cold Pursuit premiere in Fernie Feb. 7
A Hollywood movie partially filmed in the region in 2017 is set to be released to the big screen, and Fernie’s Vogue Theatre will get a head start on showings.

Then-named Hard Powder, which arrived in Fernie and Cranbrook’s economic realm thanks to Parks Canada bureaucracy chasing it from Banff, is now called Cold Pursuit.
The action-adventure revenge flick features Liam Neeson, Canadian icon Tom Jackson, Emmy Rossum (Day After Tomorrow; Phantom of the Opera), Laura Dern (Mask, Jurassic Park), William Forsythe (The Rock, Things to Do in Denver When You’re Dead), Julia Jones (Wind River, Longmire) and Tom Bateman (Murder on the Orient Express, Vanity Fair).
A special world premiere screening is on Feb. 7 at The Vogue; advance ticket purchases became available as of Feb. 1.
Cold Pursuit opens worldwide on Feb. 8 and will run at the Vogue Theatre until Feb. 21.
The film is based on the 2014 Norwegian film Kraftidioten (In Order of Disappearance), starring Stellan Skarsgard.
The gist of the story:
Citizen of the year Nels Coxman is the lifeblood of a glitzy resort town in the Rocky Mountains because he is the one who keeps the winter roads clear in his snowplough. When his son is murdered by a powerful drug lord, Nels is forced to leave town in a drive for vengeance, utilizing his hunting skills to transform himself into a skilled killer. Nels’ actions ignite a turf war between a manically unpredictable gangster known as Viking and a rival gang boss. Justice is served in one final spectacular confrontation that will leave (almost) no one unscathed.
