Fernie SAR rescue injured hiker
Fernie Search and Rescue was called out at 6 p.m. Friday, July 27 to rescue an injured hiker.
The hiker, a local woman, was hiking Heiko’s Trail with a friend and her daughter when she slipped and fell, sustaining a serious lower leg injury.
Two hikers coming the other way were able to call 911 once they got back into cell reception. Fernie SAR responded by helicopter and was able to long-line her to safety after stabilizing the injury.
She was then loaded in the helicopter and delivered to BC Ambulance Service in Fernie and taken to the Elk Valley Hospital, Fernie SAR reported via Facebook.
