Fernie SAR save injured sledder

Fernie Search and Rescue (FSAR) was called out at 12:38 p.m. today (April 11) to respond to a 911 call for an injured sledder.

The snowmobiler was part of a duo sledding north of Barnes Peak, having staged out of Corbin.

The injured party, a female from the area with considerable backcountry experience, had rolled her sled sustaining injuries as the sled fell on her, reported Fernie SAR.

“Her companion was able to summon help via satphone (satellite telephone) and InReach and provide an exact location as well as assess options for helicopter access.

“FSAR responded with an Avalanche Technician and first aider to the scene via helicopter where the subject was packaged with spinal precautions and returned to Fernie and handed off to BCAS. She is thought to have a broken scapula.”
