Fernie Fire Department (FFD) members yesterday (July 14) responded to a recreational river user who had capsized and was stuck on a strainer in the James White log jam in Elk River.

The department’s Swiftwater Rescue Technicians were able to safely and efficiently rescue the person and bring them to shore.

FFD would like to remind all river users to:

• wear a PFD;
• be able to manoeuvre their water craft;
• be aware that the river is a dynamic, changing environment;
• constantly look downstream for hazards.
