Ghostriders’ de la Salle commits to NCAA D3 college
Lucas de la Salle of the Fernie Ghostriders has committed to play collegiate hockey for the Anna Maria College AMCATS of the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division 3 this fall.
The Edmonton native returned to the Kootenay International Junior Hockey league (KIJHL) with the Ghostriders following a trade from the Northern Manitoba Blizzard of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League.
De La Salle had six points in 20 games and collected an assist in four KIJHL Teck Cup playoff games.
“I’m excited to move on to the next stage of my life and looking forward to continuing my hockey career at Anna Maria,” said De La Salle, 20, who began his junior hockey career in the KIJHL with the Columbia Valley Rockies.
This past season the 6-0, 170-pound forward made significant improvements with his decision-making and play with the puck.
“I also gained confidence with the puck and trusting my play-making abilities,” he said. “I believe playing with a great organization in Fernie gave me the support I needed to show my abilities and develop as a person. My teammates helped push me to become the player I am today.”
As a rookie with the Rockies, De La Salle had 39 points in 43 games and added five points in six playoff games.
